Canadiens Recall Marc Denis and Ben Maxwell From Hamilton

With injuries to Saku Koivu, Chris Higgins, Mattheiu Dandenault and Mike Komisarek as well as Carey Price feeling under the weather, the Montreal Canadiens have called up forward Ben Maxwell as well as veteran goaltender Marc Denis form the Hamilton Bulldogs today. Both are expected to be suited up for Saturday night's game against the Washington Capitals.

MONTREAL(December 12, 2008) – The Montreal Canadiens announced today that goaltender Marc Denis and forward Ben Maxwell have been recalled from the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.

Marc Denis, who joined the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent back on August 3, 2008, played in 19 of the Bulldogs 26 games this season. He posted a record of 12 wins, including two shutouts, and 6 losses while posting a 2.60 GAA and a .915 saving percentage. Denis was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 2, 2008, after recording three wins in as many starts stopping 96 of 99 shots directed at him. The 31-year old veteran has appeared in 348 NHL games with Colorado,Columbus and Tampa Bay earning 112 wins and posting 16 shutouts.

Ben Maxwell, who was the Canadiens second pick (49th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, is in his rookie season with the Hamilton Bulldogs after five seasons with the WHL’s Kootenay Ice. A centreman shooting left, Maxwell currently ranks third on the Bulldogs scoring list with 20 points in 26 games (8 goals including 4 on the power play, and 12 assists). The 6’1’’ and 187 lbs forward who will turn 21 on March 30, has also served 12 penalty minutes and is a +1.

Denis and Maxwell will arrive in Montreal tonight and will attend the team’s practice Saturday at the Bell Centre.
