CANADIENS RECALL DEFENSEMAN ALEX HENRY FROM THE HAMILTON BULLDOGS
It would appear that the initial prognosis concerning the potential injury Josh Gorges may have suffered after an arguably illegal upper body hit in last night's game, is not positive. Perhaps the Canadiens are just being cautious or perhaps they already know that they will be needing healthy scratch Ryan O'Byrne to step into Gorges' spot and will be needing a backup on D. In either case, Henry gets a shot with the big club for the time being.
According to the official Habs press release:
The Montreal Canadiens announced today that defenseman
Alex Henry has been recalled from the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. Henry (6’6’’, 230 lbs) scored eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 47 games with the Bulldogs this season. The 29-year-old also posted a plus-9 rating with 70 penalty minutes. Last season, Henry amassed 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists) and served 142 penalty minutes in 80 games as captain of the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.
Before joining the Canadiens as a free agent on July 3, 2008, the Elliot Lake, Ontario native played 175 games in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers, the Washington Capitals and the Minnesota Wild. He registered 11 points and 259 penalty minutes.
Henry was drafted in the third round, 67th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 1998.
