Canadiens recall PK Subban

The Habs have just announced that they have called up D-man PK Subban from the Hamilton Bulldogs in time to play for Game 6 of the NHL round 1 playoffs.

The Canadiens had one more call-up option left and the timing seems right to use it now as the Bulldogs just eliminated the Manitoba Moose last night, while the Habs are in a do-or-die situation as they are behind 3-2 in this best of seven series with the Washington Capitals.

Subban is being kept away from the surely rabid media In what I’m sure is an effort to just let the young defenceman concentrate on the task at hand which is to help the Habs both offensively and defensively.

Subban, while finishing the AHL regular season at a plus 46 is still being criticised for his defensive lapses and positioning that sometimes end up with the puck in his own net, however you will be hard pressed to convince any Hab fan who attended both Bulldogs games and both Canadiens/Flyers games with Subban in the line-up, that he has not earned at least the chance to be up with the big team.

I, for one, like this move. It can only add a spark to the team as Subban is a positive element in the room and determined to prove he can play.  I’m assuming, however that he will be paired with a responsible, stay at home defenseman, so the MAB-Subban pairing should be a longshot.
