Amir Lowery Joins The Impact for 2011 Season
The Montreal Impact announced Wednesday the signing of American midfielder Amir Lowery for the 2011 season.
Lowery, 27, played the last two seasons with the Carolina RailHawks, playing a total of 4,130 minutes over 54 matches.
In 2005, the Washington native was the third-round choice of the Colorado Rapids (45th overall), in the MLS Superdraft. Lowery played two matches with the Rapids, before getting loaned to the Atlanta Silverbacks for the rest of the 2005 season. He then went to the Kansas City Wizards (MLS) for the 2007 season and played 13 matches with the reserve team. Lowery also played for the reserve team of the San Jose Earthquakes in 2008.
"The addition of Lowery to our lineup provides us with even more depth at the central midfield position, but also on central defense," said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. "He’s an experienced and versatile player who makes his presence felt on the pitch."
The announcement coming on the heels of 11 year veteran midfielder Patrick Leduc’s retirement announcement, Lowery, is now the 20th player under contract for the 2011 North American Soccer League (NASL) season. He is probable for practice with his new teammates today, in Brossard.
