Alouettes Still Undefeated in 21-8 Victory over Hamilton Tigercats
It was their toughest outing yet, but the Montreal Alouettes are still unbeaten in four games. Anthony Calvillo is alone in second place all time for most career touchdown passes in CFL history after his 334th career touchdown pass to Jamel Richardson and would add to the total as the Als roll past the Hamilton Tigercats by a score of 21-8
For the first time this season, the Als did t scor a point in the first quarter and found themselves in a 6-0 hole after Hamilton had to settle for 2 field goals before entering the second. While the Als offense did not maintain the minimum 40 points per game against their oponents, they still found ways to crack Hamilton's topgun defensive line.
Props also have to go to the perhaps underrated Als defensive core which never allowed Hamilton to score a major despite getting many cracks at the red zone. Keron Williams, Étienne Boulay, Anwar Stewart and company are showing fans and the rest of the CFL that the Als are not just a one trick pony. Offense as well as defence are fluid and functional.
The Als' D combined for 4 quarterback sacks and one interception while on the other end, while Calvillo was intercepted for the first time this season, was never touched by a Tigercat.
Calvillo who had yet another day at the office, passed for 404 yards with touchdown passes to Jamel Richardson and Brian Bratton surpassed legendary Saskatchewan quarterback Ron Lancaster in TD passes and was justly treated to a lengthy home crowd standing ovation.
Calvillo, however, put it all into perspective, "We turned the ball over on downs early, we had an interception and those are things that in a close game are going to come back and hurt us. We have to do a better job of taking care of the ball. I feel we haven't improved in that area -- leaving points on the field."
Étienne Boulay came into the game to replace Mathieu Proulx who suffered a hip pointer got Montreal's only interception of the game, According to Trestman, Proulx may be ready to play next Thursday in Edmonton.
After winning their first game of the season against Winnpeg, The Eskimos have been beaten in their last two, including the 50-16 drubbing at the hands of the Alouettes.
