With Sergei Kostitsyn, Benoit Pouliot, Marc-André Bergeron and Tomas Plekanec all on therapy days today in stead of practicing before yet another “must win” game against the Penguins tomorrow afternoon, The Canadiens saw it fit to air on the side of caution and called up some reinforcements.
Bergeron will most probably be placed on injured reserve with a lower body injury, suffered while blocking a shot last night in Boston. As for the others, it’s unclear as to the extent of their injuries or ailments, but again, better to be safe than sorry.
Ryan White has the most experience with the big club and showed much hustle and vigilance along with his willingness to get his nose dirty. But his limited ice time on the 3rd and 4th line garnered him 2 assists in 14 games with the Habs.
David Desharnais must be hoping that this second stint in Montreal lasts a tad longer than his last one. Last time Desharnais was called up was to face the Penguins, and his 6 hour limousine ride from Hamilton to Pittsburgh lasted longer than his stay with the team. The diminutive Desharnais is tearing it up in Hamilton. Despite his small 5’07” frame and a foot injury, he is second on the team in scoring.
Someone who had to be asking what he had to do to get a nod, need no longer ask. Brock Trotter, the Bulldogs’ leading scorer gets his first shot to impress, if he actually gets a chance to play. In Hamilton, Trotter has 53 points in 49 games including 29 goals.
Whatever the case may be, or whoever does get a chance to play, with the absence of Bergeron, Cammalleri and Andrei Kostitsyn, it would be nice to see if any of these call-ups could be as useful of a replacement player as their captain Mathieu Darche has been since his recent call-up.
