Montreal Canadiens
Canadiens @ Bruins Game Preview Notes
Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens travel to Boston to play the Bruins Thursday night. The Bruins have not won a "home game" since their outdoor Winter Classic on New Year's day at Fenway Park. The Bruins last win at the TD Garden was a 4-0 shut out of the Atlanta Thrashers a couple of days earlier on December 30th.
This is Montreal's 3rd meeting against the Bruins this season. The Canadiens won both games thanks to Michael Cammalleri's game winning goals in both games. Cammalleri is out for about six weeks. Metropolit has 2 goals and 1 assist in 2 games against his former team.
Montreal has the edge over Boston with an all time record of 336 wins, 256 losses and 103 ties.
Always the statistician, Canadiens coach Jacques Martin is apparently looking twice at Carey Price, given his 2 wins, 0,96 GAA and 0,975 Save %. This is despite Jaraslav Halak getting his first over start after a loss against Vancouver Tuesday night, and being rewarded with a 45 save performance.
Sergei Kostitsyn is hoping to ride his 2 point performance (1G, 1A) against the Canucks on a top line with Pouliot and Plekanec.
Going into Tuesday night's game against Vancouver, Pouliot had only 1 assist in 18 games with the Canadiens. He had 2 assists against the Canucks.
Tomas Plekanec's started to fizzle out for a few games, but has refound his number 1 center form with 6 points in his last 5 games (3G, 3A).
In the 21 games Brian Gionta missed due to injury, Mike Cammalleri responded with 10 goals and 8 assists. Both he, Benoit Pouliot and perhaps even Sergei Kostitsyn, will be looked at to fill the void Cammalleri's injury now creates.
Former Canadien Michael Ryder is now being openly shopped by the Bruins.
While not exceptional, Tim Tomas has been playing decently over his last two games, going 0-1-1, 2.42 GAA, .907 Save %
