Georges Laraque, Why Do You Forsake Us?

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

As heard on the "Sunday Sermon" during the "Franchise Weekend Morning Show" on THE TEAM990.

I want to go on the record as saying that I was a fan of BGL, but is it not time for the Canadiens to revisit the whole Georges Laraque situation?

Laraque's Absence Will Go Unnoticed, White Gets Callup

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

With Georges Laraque out yet again with an injury (upper body), the Montreal Canadiens went to the farm to call up forward Ryan White from the Hamilton Bulldogs. White will join the Canadiens today in Montreal for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils at the Bell Centre.

One has to wonder if it is not time for the Canadiens to revisit the Laraque acquisition.

Canadiens VS Devils: What You Need To Know

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

This is the 2nd meeting this year between the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils. The Devils beat the Canadiens 2-1 in a game which saw Martin Brodeur tie former Habs great Patrick Roy for appearances by a goaltender with 1029.

The Devils are currently first in the Eastern Conference, and have played 5 games less than the Canadiens. They were on their way to having their 2 game win streak snapped at home against the Lightning Friday night, but the game was suspended!

The Canadiens are still in a playoff position, 8th place, but have a resurged Flyers team nipping at their heels, only 2 points behind and 3 games in hand.

Andrei Kostitsyn Out "Indefinitely" After Knee Surgery

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Andrei Kostitsyn underwent knee surgery today in Montreal. According to the press release, he will be out indefinitely. Speculation has the healing time at 6-8 weeks which means that not only will he miss some extensive time away from the Habs’ line-up, but he will not be able to represent his country at the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver.

5 Things You Need To Know About the Canadiens Vs The Panthers

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

  1. The Canadiens are looking to snap a 2 game losing streak on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers at the Bell Center in Montreal. These two teams are meeting for the 2nd time this season, with Montreal having already beaten the Panthers in Florida 5-4 on New Year's Eve.
  2. The Habs really needed Andrei Kostitsyn against Washington last night, but neither he, nor his brother Sergei, will likely be available.
  3. Tomas Plekanec has not scored in his last 2 games, and is a -1. He has looked very tired in his last two games, but perhaps he will be more motivated with GM Bob Gainey's recent comments that the team would in fact like to sign him soon to a long term deal.
