Habs vs Rangers preview - A Chance for Redemption

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

With a win Friday night against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils (Halak's first ever win against Jersey by the way), the Canadiens now find themselves within 2 points of their next opponent, the New York Rangers.

The Rangers were idle Friday night and hold a game in hand.

Canadiens vs Devils Preview, With A Rant Thrown In

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

This is the time for the true supporters of the Montreal Canadiens to stand up and be heard. So far, the loudest talking so-called Habs fans are the people who expect the Canadiens to sell off the team every time the Canadiens lose a hockey game. Frankly, it's pathetic. If you didn't think that with the hiring of a new coach, and completing half of this team with new players that the Canadiens weren't in the process of rebuilding, than you must have worn the "dunce" cap more than once in your life.

Mathieu Darche Call-up by Habs a Good One

Max Pacciorety couldn’t do it. Matt D’Agostini seems unable to do it. Travis Moen, Maxim Lapierre and Glen Metropolit’s brief stints in the position of top 6 forward hasn’t brought any punch to the line-up either. So Montreal went to the Hamilton well once again in search of a spark or at least an effort in the calling up of Mathieu Darche.

Canadiens vs Blues Preview Notes

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

Had the Canadiens stepped up on what was their most important 2 game set so far this season and won both games, there would have been a 3 time tie for 5th place between the Habs, the Senators and the Bruins. Instead, the Canadiens have reverted back to early season form which saw them play disastrous 2nd periods, resulting again in them losing the game. While most are blaming bad goaltending, I am looking squarely at defensive breakdowns which are causing odd man rushes or opposing team players being open for the cross ice pass.

What you need to know about the Canadiens match up against the Rangers:

What a disappointing loss the Canadiens had at home against the Ottawa Senators 4-2. Price let in 3 goals on 27 shots, with 2 goals being of the soft variety.

The good news for the Canadiens is that Plekanec finally got his first goal and point of 2010, when he gave the Canadiens a 2-1 lead early in the 2nd period. Benoit Pouliot also added another goal, keeping pace with his trade partner Guillaume Latendresse.
