Habs, Price agree to 2 Years

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

After months of speculation, yet only hours after his agent appeared on the TEAM 990 reassuring all Montrealers that Carey Price would, in fact be at the Habs training camp this season, it was finally announced that the anointed number one goaltender has now officially signed a two year deal with the club.

So much for those pundits and naysayers that predicted Price was contemplating foregoing Hockey altogether in order to pursue his passion for the rodeo..

As per the official team press release (below), financial terms were not divulged. A media phone press conference will take place at 4:45 today where more news and details are expected to come forth. It is believed the total amount for the 2 seasons is 5.25 Million.

Please read on for the official Habs press release.

Habs Trade G Cedric Desjardins to TB for G Karri Ramo

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

Before you jump to outlandish conclusions, and while I won’t say that the contract negotiations between Carey Price and the Habs are going as quickly as I’d like them, this goalie trade between Montreal and Tampa Bay is strictly an AHL transaction. The Canadiens have just announced that they have traded Cédric Désjardins for Karri Ramo.

Habs acquire Karri Ramo from Tampa Bay in exchange of Cedrick Desjardins

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

So the pillaging of Montreal Canadiens talent, both roster and management, continues. You'd think that with all this demand for Canadiens', they'd have won something in the last 17 years...That being said, one has to wonder if this is a sign that perhaps the talks with Carey Price and his agent are a bit more heated than previously reported. While Ramo is not a bonafide NHL caliber starter by any stretch of the imagination, he does have decent NHL level statistics on what was a less than decent NHL team. However, he is in the 2nd of a 2 year deal to play with the Omsk Avangard of the KHL. Here is the official Press Release:

MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Monday the acquisition of goaltender Karri Ramo from the Tampa Bay Lightning, in return for netminder Cédrick Desjardins.

Louis Leblanc Under 3 Year Contract With Habs, Juniors an Option?

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have announced they have come to a 3 year agreement with Louis Leblanc. The much touted, much hyped, much wanted native Quebecer is now officially opening himself up to all that comes with being property of the Habs organization. Welcome and good luck.

Let the discussions begin anew as to where he will, or should play out his pre NHL years. While Leblanc has made it clear that he was going to return to Harvard, where he was top scorer in his rookie season, Many feel he should get more games in via the QMJHL (Montreal Juniors, conveniently enough) so that he can start getting a feel for the lengthy schedule and duration of a typical AHL/NHL season.

Habs Hire Scouts, Strength and Conditioning Coach

Montreal Sports - Montreal Canadiens

While all of Montreal is waiting for one signing in particular, (any time soon would be nice, Mr Price)  Pierre Gauthier and the Canadiens have taken care of some back office signings, including a strength and conditioning coach as well as a full time amateur scout for Quebec.

Habs press release sorts it all out.
