Montreal Sports - Montreal Alouettes

The 2009 CFL Champion Montreal Alouettes are showing no signs of sitting idly by and resting on last season’s laurels. According to their press release below, they have signed some young imports at various positions in order to add depth to their all-star line-up:

Montreal, Apr. 13, 2010 - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that import free safety Dave Casale, import linebacker Shomari Earls and import defensive back Travis Key have all signed for one year plus an option. Import defensive end Ian Campbell has also signed for two years plus an option.

Montreal Sports - Montreal Alouettes

The CFL has released the 2010 season schedule for the Montreal Alouettes. After playing 2 pre-season games against Winnipeg and Toronto, the Alouettes will start the season in a Grey Cup rematch against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The bye week will be at the end of August in Week 9. Finally, the Als have 2 home/away back to back games in their last 6 weeks, with 2 against Calgary and the last two games of the season against Toronto. Fortunately for Montreal, they will not be facing their former Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach & Assistant Head Coach Scott Milanovich, who decided to turn down the offer made by the Toronto Argonauts to resign with Montreal.

Als Defeat Riders in Dramatic Fashion to Win the 97th Grey Cup

Montreal Sports - Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes were the best team in football all year, but you wouldn't know when you were watching the 1st half of the Grey Cup. The only bright spot on the Alouettes in the first half was Avon Cobourne, who kept trying to rally the troops despite a very shaky first half from Anthony Calvillo. In fact, even when AC was completing passes to his receivers, they were almost never on target and could just as easily have been dropped. But Cobourne remained a steady presence throughout the entire game, be it through his ability to rush the ball for 85 yards and 1 touchdown, or in the air with 6 catches for 64 yards. He was named the most valuable player in this years edition of the Grey Cup

Calvillo named Offensive Player of the Week

Montreal Sports - Montreal Alouettes

We knew Anthony Calvillo wanted to not just win against the BC Lions, but make a statement in their win that the Alouettes will steamroll through teams on their way to only their 2nd Grey Cup in 7 attempts. Well, the CFL was certainly impressed as the league named Calvillo their Offensive Player of the Week. I doubt Calvillo will spend any time at all thinking about this award, since the only one he has eyes for will be to win the big win in Calgary. Read on for the press release:
