The Alouettes not only dominated the Tigercats on Monday, but have also dominated the player of the week honors yet again. Ben Cahoon was named Canadian Player of the Week, while Jamel Richardson took offensive player of the week honors. Calvillo was named runner up to Richardson while Reggie Hunt was also named runner up as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Als Exact Revenge on Ti-Cats

What do you do after you lose to the worse team in the league by 6 points? You crush the bastards by 31! The Alouettes not only battered Hamilton, as they padded their own record books as well. Calvillo threw for 3 TD passes which included his 38th TD for the season. This set a new team record, which he himself broke in 2003. Cahoon added 164 reception yards, which puts him over the 1000 yard mark for the 7th straight year. Montreal has already won the East, and is now battling several teams for the best record in the CFL, including the Calgary Stampeders, who are the new West Division leaders. Both teams play two East Division teams in their next two games, and end their season against a West division team, with Montreal playing Edmonton to close out their season.

Als Get Fever for the Flavour!

On October 13th, the Alouettes will not only honor the most prolific running back in CFL history, but will do it before a game where they will get a chance to avenge a humiliating loss to the Ti-Cats last week. The Alouettes are now the Eastern Division champions, but they sure didn't play like it on route to a 44-38 loss. Hopefully, the team will be playing inspired football, after a ceremony where they will pay tribute to Michael Pringle for his recent induction into the CFL Hall of Fame.

Cobourne Named CFL Offensive Player of the Week

From Alouettes website:

Montreal, Oct. 1, 2008 – Montreal Alouettes running back Avon Cobourne’s dream season is rolling along nicely as the team-leader in rushing yards was named today the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14 following another great performance in the Alouettes’ convincing 37-12 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders last Sunday.

With 17 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown, Cobourne helped the Alouettes clinch a home playoff game at Olympic Stadium – either the East Division Semi-Final on Nov. 8 or the Final on Nov. 15.

So far this season, Cobourne has tallied up 940 rushing yards on 139 carries, placing him third in the CFL despite missing three straight games. He is currently on a streak of six consecutive games with at least 100 yards on the ground.

Als Add Insult to Riders' Injuries

The Montreal Alouettes do not know the meaning of the word "mercy". They never have before, and apparently that trend will continue under CFL "rookie" head coach Trestman. Montreal exploded for 21 points in the 2nd quarter, and never looked back on route to a 37 to 12 victory against Saskatchewan. While this win was not as brutal as the 40-4 dismantling of the Edmonton Eskimos, it does show the Als' resolve to make a statment to any team coming from the West that Montreal will play them hard at home. With that win, Montreal is now 4 games ahead of 2nd place Winnipeg, and tied with Calgary for 1st overall in the CFL. TSN has even put Montreal at number one in their weekly CFL power poll. This game also featured the return of Montreal runningback Avon Cobourne, who picked up 125 yards on the ground while finding the endzone once. Cobourne was poised to become the first player in CFL history to both run and catch for 1000 or more yards, however that appears highly unlikely. There are only 5 more games left in the season, and Cobourne would have to average just over 100 yards a game. He only managed 8 yards on Sunday. Montreal's next game will be on Saturday, October 4th, against the lowly Ti-Cats!

Alouettes Destroy Eskimos in Montreal

Marc Tresman and Anthony Calvillo must have been listening to Nick Murdocco's motivational speech on this morning's show before taking on Edmonton this afternoon in Montreal. Nick asked for a game where Calvillo would throw for over 400 yards, and be interception free. Calvillo responds by throwing for 414 yards on 31 pass completions, 2 touchdown passes, and 0 passes being caught by the other team. 3 Montreal receivers had over a 100 yards receiving while Mike Imoh added to touchdowns from the ground. When it was all over, Montreal pummeled Edmonton into a tie for last place with BC in the West Division by beating the Eskimos 40-4. It should also be noted that BC is the other team Montreal beat from the West earlier this season, which also happened to be at home in Montreal.
