Jean Pascal Wins One-Handed!

Boxing

In a fight that will be talked about for a long time in Montreal, Jean Pascal successfully defended his WBO Light Heavyweight title last night at the Bell Center against the man he took it from on June 19th of this year, Adrian Diaconu. Jean Pascal reportedly separated his right shoulder 3 times in this fight, and was limited to throwing jabs in the final 2 rounds. This was Jean Pascal's 2nd title defence, as he has already fought Silvio Branco in September. With 4 fights in 2009 to his credit, Jean Pascal's manager (Yvon Michel) will be looking to get the fighter some much needed rest, before having to take on mandatory challenger Chad Dawson within 120 days. Dawson is the WBC interim champion, but Yvon Michel should be citing the damage received by his fighter as cause to get an extension.

Both the Montreal Gazette and the Canadian Press had this fight much closer than the 118-110, 117-111, 117-111 given by the judges at ringside. A very distraught Adrian Diaconu felt that he had won 8 rounds, and did not want to comment further.

Joachim Alcine Battles to a Unanimous Decision Win

Boxing

Joachim Alcine battled it out for 12 rounds against a very compact, very tough French fighter Christophe Canclaux and came out the winner by unanimous decision (115-113, 117-110, 117-110) in front of his hometown crowd at the Casino de Montréal tonight. With that victory, "Ti-Joa" claims the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight title. Originally born in Haiti, Alcine now makes his home in Laval, Quebec.
