Bernard, Not Bute, Next For Jean Pascal

Boxing

ESPN is reporting that Canadian Jean Pascal, will be fighting Boxing Legend Bernard Hopkins on December 18th, 2010, in Quebec City. Jean Pascal is the current WBO and IBO Light Heavyweight Champion, and is coming off a win against Chad Dawson. There had been speculation that Jean Pascal was looking for a big money fight by taking on fellow adopted Canadian Lucien Bute, but the Bute camp did not appear to be interested in that fight at this stage in Bute's career.

According to the report from ESPN, the only thing left to do is actually sign the contract, as both sides have come to a verbal agreement. Hopkins is looking to regain the Light Heavyweight title that he lost to Joe Calzaghe in 2008. "The Executioner" is 45 years old, but has won his last 3 fights since 2008, including wins against Kelly Pavlik and Roy Jones Jr. 2008 also marks the last time Jean Pascal lost (to Carl Froch), but he has gone on to win his next 5 matches. Pascal may be required to fight Chad Dawson in a mandatory rematch after this fight.

Ray Leonard At Rival Boxing Yesterday

Boxing

Here is a great article from the Montreal Gazette on Sugar Ray Leonard's return to Montreal. Russ Anber began the event by showing a video he narrated on the great career of Leonard, and introduced some of the Quebec boxing legends in attendance, including Fernand Marcotte who fought Leonard in February 11th, 1979. Those who purchased items for Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation for juvenile diabetes and juvenile obesity, where able to get those items autographed. An interesting note was Ray Leonard's forshadowing of a potential deal between himself and Russ Anber. No details were provided, but he did say that they have had several discussions with Russ Anber, and hoped that something really big would be coming from it.

Tri Pro KO 4th Boxing Gala - Quick Results

Boxing

Tri Pro KO put together a great card, at a great venue, with a great group of fighters. I had a great time, along with everyone in attendence. The crowd was the loudest during the Terrance Andrews - Hendy Simon match! Several pro boxers who were in Montreal to train were in attendance, as well as Second Thought from Eye 2 Eye, Pro MMA fighter John "The Bull" Makdessi and many other people of note. In fact, John Makdessi was also there in support of "Baby Bull" George Makdessi, who was making his combat sports amateur debut! Another point to note, Dany Caron, who was headlining the card, was fighting for the 40th time as an amateur.
